DACA: Workshop Research

So we have been meeting up as a group but not everyone has been coming which is quite frustrating as it just delays time. anyway now that we have met a couple of time we have been reaerching into the Holi festival for our workshop.

Holi (pronunciation: /ˈhl/Sanskritहोली Holī) is a spring festival, also known as the festival of colours or the festival of love.It is an ancient Hindu religious festival which has become popular with non-Hindus in many parts of South Asia, as well as people of other communities outside Asia.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holi

Instead of just concentrating on the Holi festival we have been looking for other cultural festivals that we could bring in such as the tomato festival in Spain and the colour run in the UK and Manchester as this would make it relevant to the kids. We plan to have a colour fight based on this cultural aspects. However I don't feel like this is a great idea but I feel like I haven't been able to say this to the group as I don't want to look like I am putting other peoples ideas down. I am going to mention it to the group, it's not that I think it shouldn't be about culture its just that it doesn't link in with the rest of the day we have planned. Plus in all honesty I don't think it will engage the pupils if the whole workshop is based on Holi because even I find it quite boring. But I do think it has a valid point as to why we are doing the colour fight so I think it should be mentioned but just as a short part.

Apart from this I have been doing my own research into costings for the resources we need. I have been looking primarily at the safety equipment i.e. goggle, overalls, dust masks, shoe covers.

Micro Teaching Workshop

Today we had our micro teaching lesson. After my experience at DACA I wanted to make something that was relevent and that each person could use on a day to day basis. I decided to create card holders to store student cards etc. I made myself a quick plan so that I could sort out what I needed.

"Explaining how the card holder is made and showing an example s well as the time to ask questions in the first 2 minutes of the session will work with the visual and verbal learners. The task itself will work with the physical learners. Also with this 10 minute session the group with have something to take with them that is relevant to them and can be used eg. To hold student, met cards, bus passes"

I made some hand outs which I gave to each person so that the learners could read the instructions in they didn't want to listen also there were photographs on the hand outs for the visual learners.

I tried this out on my sister and her friend however I take into consideration that she and her friend are fashion students and so completed this task quickly. On the day I ran out of time, to make this so that it would run on time or to make it so that I already put the folds in, or I could have stitched one side already. I really enjoyed this process even though it didnt go exactly to plan it made me realize that time goes allot quicker then you expect. Now we need to go back to our workshop with this knowledge and iron out any kinks

Body Language

We had a talk about body language and how important it is. We watched a video of Amy Cuddy's seminar and we went along with it. So we stood up and spread out and lay with our feet up on the table. This was a strange experience as I felt like I shouldn't be aloud to do it. It did work standing like superman for thirty seconds made me feel great it lowered me stress levels. I took this home and told everyone I knew all of them saying it worked. On the DACA day and in any future stressful situations I'm going to use this technique, as for me it really worked to calm me down. The link is below the screen shot.

Body language is a part of communication that very few actually study yet it makes up most of what we use to communicate and is generally much more accurate a judge of meaning than are the words we use.
